Ankle Joint and Foot Orthoses

Foot Orthosis (FO):

A foot orthotic is a specialized insole or insert placed inside footwear to provide support, cushioning, and alignment correction for the feet. These devices are designed to improve comfort and alleviate various foot conditions, helping individuals walk and move more comfortably and efficiently.

Custom Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO):

A custom AFO is a personalized medical device meticulously crafted to address a patient's unique lower limb needs. We begin by assessing the patient's condition, taking precise measurements, and often conducting a mold or digital scan of their leg and foot. The AFO is then expertly designed and manufactured to fit the patient's anatomy perfectly. This tailored approach ensures maximum support, stability, and comfort, making it ideal for individuals with complex or specific requirements.

Off-the-Shelf Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO):

An off-the-shelf AFO is a pre-fabricated, ready-to-use orthotic device. While it's not customized for an individual's specific anatomy or condition, it offers a more cost-effective and convenient option. Off-the-shelf AFOs come in various sizes and designs, and we, as orthotists, help select the most suitable one based on the patient's needs and measurements. While they may not provide the same level of customization as custom AFOs, they can still offer essential support and stability for many common lower limb issues.
